21 August 08 - Housing Association is Getting Bigger and Still Caring
Tamar Housing Society today celebrates the launch of a new website and branding with the news of its grant allocation from the Housing Corporation for £1.5 million. The grant will help to fund a significant £6 million development programme to build new homes in Plymouth , North Cornwall and Caradon.
The Society also started a major investment programme to improve the homes of existing tenants, 91% of which view Tamar Housing’s service as satisfactory or very satisfactory. Under the existing programme, which is in its second year, the Society has installed new double glazing units in over 100 homes and upgraded wiring and heating systems in 75 homes.
The good news doesn’t end there. The Society, which is now in its 43 rd year, has received further recognition of its commitment to continuous improvement from the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI). Tamar Housing has been awarded “3 Star Excellence” by CSCI for Stepping Stones, a 15 unit registered care home for young adults with physical disabilities in Plymouth .
Commenting on the launch Chief Executive Julie Barnett said: “We are absolutely delighted that our hard work has resulted in external recognition and a substantial grant allocation which will mean more rental and low cost ownership opportunities in the area. Staff morale here is very high at the moment but we know there is always more to do as we continue to find ways to improve our service to residents. Our new branding communicates that we are ‘small enough to care – BIG enough to achieve.’ This mantra has been key to our success so far and will stand us in good stead as we continue to deliver our major investment and development programmes.”
The new look and website, developed in partnership with Plymouth based Fuel Communications, allows tenants to request repairs, view financial and other information and get more closely involved with the Society. Find out more at www.tamarhs.org
