14 April 08 - Mortgage firm viewed as “An exemplary employer”
The South West’s largest firm of independent mortgage brokers, The Mortgage Shop, has had its Investor in People status renewed after passing a recent inspection with flying colours.
The company, which has eight offices in the region including its head office in Plymouth , was first awarded the prestigious standard in 2005 when it had four offices. Since then, The Mortgage Shop has used Investors in People to assist its rapid growth and ensure its high standards are maintained.
Overall, the new report says: “In many ways, The Mortgage Shop is an exemplary employer.” It also listed a number of strengths and areas of good practice including:
“Staff at The Mortgage Shop are very clear about where the business is heading and the part they have to play”
“There is a clear and widely shared understanding of the importance of maintaining good client relationships to the continuing success of the company”
“Managers are effective at meeting the expectations of their staff for openness, approachability and support. Senior management is particularly valued in this respect”
“There is a strong commitment to training and development throughout the company and training is well planned”
“There are several examples of staff building themselves a career within the organisation and there is a very definite drive from the top for people to find and seize opportunities to develop themselves”
“There is no doubt that the Investors in People standard has had a profound effect on the growth of our business,” commented Managing Director David Munn. “We have worked hard to implement the standards set out by IIP into our expansion plan. It is very pleasing to see our commitment to client care and providing career opportunities for our staff recognised by this report,” he concluded.
