Legal Structure Boosts Barbican Businesses
Businesses on the Barbican have received a welcome boost to their ambitions thanks to the input of a major city law firm.
The Association of Barbican Businesses (ABB) is now better equipped to communicate with one voice and apply for funding from the likes of The National Lottery after one of its members Foot Anstey stepped forward to provide its expertise on a pro bono basis for its first written constitution.
The firm, which opened its flagship new office at Sutton Harbour earlier this year, recently became a member of the ABB to play an active role in improving the area.
The eighty strong membership of the ABB is committed to raising the profile of Plymouth’s historic quarter for both businesses and residents. In recent years the ABB has attracted Tall Ships to the Barbican, fairground rides for families and done much to improve the look of the area with flowers and further landscaping.
Benjamin Shearn, Chairman of the Association of Barbican Businesses said: “It is important that we carry on improving our offer for visitors to the Barbican. Our new legal status gives us greater transparency and leverage to attract external funding to do just that. We are very grateful to Foot Anstey for adding weight to what we are trying to achieve and offering their skills free of charge.”
Richard Coombs, Partner at Foot Anstey commented: “The ABB has done an excellent job in recent years for what is a major part of Plymouth’s offer to visitors and people who live in the city. Our work is part of the firm’s policy to engage with local businesses and work together to improve things for Plymouth as a whole.”
