One of Plymouth ’s finest dining venues is seeking inspiration from a local ceramic artist as part of its refurbishment programme.Steve Bowen, owner of The Waterfront Restaurant & Bar on The Hoe, is paying attention to quite literally every detail to enhance customer experience, so much so that he wants to commission a design for the establishment’s new urinals.
“Let’s just say that I am serious about this!” said Mr Bowen. “We are spending a significant amount on improving facilities and that includes our toilets. Whilst looking at urinal designs I became bored with what was on offer - plain white ceramic or plain white ceramic. A quick search on the internet came up with a pair of bright red lips, I don’t think lips would be suitable for our establishment but perhaps a lily flower or something along those lines would be more suitable. So I will commission the best idea that a ceramicist comes up with. I need inspiration but I need it soon so I would urge any interested parties to contact give me a tinkle.”
Using local artistic talent and sourcing local produce and is nothing new for The Waterfront. Mr Bowen sources as much produce as he can from within a 20 mile radius of the city. In addition, local gallery Artmill has a quarterly exhibition at the The Waterfront which coincides with a change of menu.
he newly refurbished Waterfront reopened on 16 January with a new menu including specials to keep dining affordable during the credit crunch. The official reopening party will take place on 29 January starting at 18.00. If you would like to attend please contact Kelly Bowen on 01752 226326 or kelly@thewaterfront.org.uk
